Clarinet Choir Workshop

 

2023


Shea Lolin lead our latest Choir workshop and was pleased with the day. He suggested Nigel Wood as a director for a future workshop. 

2022


We were delighted that Shea Lolin agreed to lead our seventh Thornbury Clarinet Choir workshop.  The workshop was much enjoyed on a glorius spring day.

 

Unfortunately there were no workshops in 2020 or 2021.
 

2019

 

We were delighted that Leslie Craven and Peter Fielding both agreed to lead our
sixth Thornbury Clarinet Choir workshop in  October 2019.

 

Leslie Craven: was Principal Clarinet of the Welsh National Opera for over 25 years. He is a prolific solo recording artist and has several CD releases some of which have been nominated for BBC music magazine awards. He is designer of the “Craven Model” Behn mouthpiece and author of “Instant Help for Playing and Teaching the Clarinet”. Before joining the W.N.O. Leslie enjoyed a major career in London playing principal clarinet with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Philharmonia and L.S.O. as well as for TV and films. He has given master classes in most of the major conservatoires in the UK and many abroad including Spain and places further afield such as Hong Kong, Colombia, South Africa and New Zealand.  As a conductor he won the Sir Adrian Boult Scholarship at the Royal College of Music and the conducting competition at the Cape Performing Arts Board Festival in Cape Town South Africa where he was Director of the South African College of Music Symphonic Wind Orchestra.


Peter Fielding: studied clarinet at The Royal Manchester College of Music with Norman Mc Donald & Sydney Fell, being one of only a very small number to gain a Performers Diploma with distinction. He went on to be Principal Clarinet in D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. and sub principal clarinet for The Welsh Philharmonia (Orchestra of Welsh National Opera). Later Peter became the principal Bass Clarinet playing clarinet as required. After 38 years with the Orchestra he retired in the Summer of 2009. During this time Peter was a Clarinet & Bass Clarinet tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, directing a number of concerts with the college wind ensemble and forming the college Clarinet Choir. He was a member of the tutorial staff at Cardiff University School of Music for 30 years until moving to the Midlands in 2015. Peter is still playing, teaching & adjudicating. He is a member of the British Clarinet Ensemble, the Bournville Clarinet Choir and the Bardi Wind Orchestra. He has directed a number of concerts with the DeMontfort University Wind Ensemble.
